About Bien Fait

Bien Fait Bakery SignIn 1995, piano teacher and baker Alice Perron established a fruitcake making business called Bien Fait Fruitcakes in Greensboro, Vermont. Alice built a wonderful reputation baking delicious cakes for the holidays and providing seasonal part-time jobs for other local women in her farmhouse kitchen.

While their mothers baked, several of the bakers' children were lucky enough to participate in the community enrichment programs run by a nearby nonprofit, Greensboro Wonder & Wisdom. Over the years demand for Bien Fait cakes increased slowly and steadily, as did the clear need for a sustainable way to support a small rural nonprofit for children and seniors.

In 2008 these two ideas -- baking and community -- came together when an L3C corporation for the bakery was formed. This special designation allows an entity to exist as a “low-profit” business to support a charity. Now the bakers of “Bien Fait Specialty Cakes” can supply their delicious cakes throughout the year with all profits going to support Wonder & Wisdom.
